Recently, the Stadium and Sports Facilities for Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu, designed by China Qiyuan Engineering Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “China Qiyuan”), a subsidiary of China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group (CECEP), were granted the 2018 Global Best Projects Award for the Sport Category by the Engineering News-Record (ENR).

Located in Port Vila, capital of the Republic of Vanuatu, the stadium and sports facilities are a non-reimbursable assistance project by the Chinese government, which was scheduled to be completed in 15 months. The project consisted of building a new gymnasium with 1,000 seats, two swimming pools, four beach volleyball courts, six tennis courts and two warm-up rooms for athletes, and renovating an existing stadium. After its completion, the project was handed over the government of Vanuatu on October 30, 2017.

The Stadium and Sports Facilities for Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu is China Qiyuan’s first overseas aid project to win the ENR Global Best Projects Award since it began to undertake the task to provide project design and management for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce’s aid programs abroad. The completion of the project laid a solid foundation for the success of the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu, and significantly enhanced Vanuatu’s attraction and competitiveness in the South Pacific region. As a fruit of the strategic partnership between China and Vanuatu featuring mutual respect and common development, it won high praise from Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu and the Prime Minister of Vanuatu.
