On October 17, the handover ceremony for the China-aided Tonga Royal Tomb Periphery Renovation Project—the first royal tomb project aided by China—was held. The project was designed and managed by CQEC. The ceremony was attended by His Majesty King Tupou VI of Tonga, Crown Prince Tupouto‘a, who also serves as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defense, Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure Fekitamoeloa Katoa ‘Utoikamanu, representatives of the project contractor, Chinese Ambassador to Tonga Liu Weimin, and representatives of Chinese enterprises in Tonga, totaling around 150 participants.

Located in the center of Nuku‘alofa, the capital of the Kingdom of Tonga, the Tonga Royal Tomb Project is a landmark of the capital with profound cultural and religious significance. Construction began in February 2024 and passed completion acceptance in August 2025. The project includes auxiliary royal tomb buildings, burial chambers and passageways, boundary walls, parking areas, and sidewalks. The four corner gardens incorporate elements of Tongan culture and spiritual symbols, preserving and beautifying the royal heritage while improving local tourism infrastructure and providing leisure spaces for residents.

During construction, the Tongan government sent two letters of appreciation to CQEC, highly commending the project management team. The successful completion of the project demonstrates CQEC’s sense of responsibility as a central state-owned enterprise and its strong capabilities in the design and management of foreign aid projects, further enhancing its international reputation and influence.
